Augsburg will look to turn their fortunes around when they host St Pauli at WWK Arena on Sunday. Both sides have struggled early in the Bundesliga season, with Augsburg sitting in 15th place and St Pauli rooted to the bottom of the table.
Augsburg’s season has started poorly, with only one point from their first two games. Their most recent match saw them suffer a heavy 4-0 defeat against FC Heidenheim despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances. Jess Thorup’s side has struggled to find the net and has failed to win their last seven Bundesliga matches, conceding 20 goals during this run. At home, Augsburg has been inconsistent, but they have managed to secure some victories in recent times.
St Pauli, back in the Bundesliga after a long absence, has had an equally difficult start to the season, failing to earn a single point so far. Their latest match ended in a narrow 1-0 loss to Union Berlin, and their defense has been a major concern. The newly promoted side won the 2. Bundesliga last season but has struggled to adjust to top-flight football. Alexander Blessin’s team will be keen to improve their dismal away record and find their first points of the season.
Augsburg
- Samuel Essende: The versatile forward has been a bright spot for Augsburg, showcasing his ability to both create and finish chances. His dynamic runs and technical skills make him a constant threat in the final third, and he’ll be pivotal in breaking down St Pauli’s defense.
- Johannes Eggestein: The forward has been St Pauli's primary attacking outlet, capable of making incisive runs and linking up play. His sharp movement and finishing skills will be essential for St Pauli to capitalize on their chances and break their scoring drought.

Augsburg will be without defender Robert Gumny, who is sidelined until December with a knee injury. Reece Oxford is also unavailable due to illness. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen is out, so Nediljko Labrovic is expected to start.
