On Sunday, Croatia will host Poland in Osijek as both teams look to secure crucial points in their UEFA Nations League Group A1 campaign. Croatia, who were narrowly beaten by Portugal in their opener, will seek redemption, while Poland aims to build on their dramatic win against Scotland.

Croatia, after reaching the Nations League final last season, began their new campaign with a 2-1 loss to Portugal. Despite a Diogo Dalot own-goal giving them hope, they were unable to equalize, leaving coach Zlatko Dalic under pressure. Croatia’s performances in Euro 2024 also raised questions, as they struggled in a tough group. Dalic is now focused on rejuvenating the squad, even as veterans like Luka Modric continue to play pivotal roles.

Poland, meanwhile, pulled off a last-minute 3-2 win against Scotland thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Nicola Zalewski. Despite blowing a two-goal lead, the Poles took maximum points, led by a penalty from captain Robert Lewandowski and an early goal from Sebastian Szymanski. Coach Michal Probierz will want to build on this momentum as Poland strives to stay in League A.

 Key Players

For Croatia, midfield maestros Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic remain crucial. Modric, despite his age, continues to dictate the tempo and orchestrate attacks, while Kovacic offers a blend of defensive stability and creative play. Together, they form the backbone of Croatia’s midfield.

For Poland, captain Robert Lewandowski is the talisman. The prolific striker, known for his lethal finishing, leads the Polish attack and will be central to their goal-scoring efforts. Piotr Zielinski, the playmaker, is another key figure. His vision and passing ability make him vital in linking Poland’s midfield to its attack.

 Team News

Croatia could freshen up their lineup after their loss to Portugal. Injuries to Josip Stanisic and Martin Erlic, along with fitness concerns surrounding Duje Caleta-Car, leave coach Dalic with limited defensive options. Domagoj Vida and Marcelo Brozovic have retired from international duty, which opens the door for younger players. Ivan Perisic, though usually deployed on the wing, could be utilized in defense if needed.

Poland will miss long-time servant Wojciech Szczesny, who recently retired, and injured striker Arkadiusz Milik. In Szczesny’s absence, Marcin Bulka will take the gloves. Krzysztof Piatek has been in good form in Turkey and is expected to partner Lewandowski upfront. Meanwhile, Zalewski, who played a key role in their win over Scotland, should feature in midfield alongside Sebastian Szymanski and Jakub Moder.

 Predicted Lineups

Zlatko Dalić, the Croatia manager is likely to go with the 3-5-2 formation. With Livakovic in goal .A defensive backline of  Jakic, Sutalo, and Gvardiol.A flooded midfield of  Sosa, Modric, Kovacic, L. Sucic, and  Pasalic with Kramaric, and  Ivanusec upfront.

Michał Probierz, the  Poland manager , is also  likely to go with the 3-5-2 formation with  Bulka in goal. A defensive backline of Bednarek, Dawidowicz, and Kiwior. Frankowski, Zielinski, Szymanski, Moder,  and Zalewski  in the midfield area with Piatek, and  Lewandowski upfront .

 Prediction

Croatia will be eager to bounce back, but Poland’s confidence after their dramatic win in Scotland could see them claim another result. Both teams have attacking threats, and with Croatia missing key players in defense, Poland could find opportunities to score.

Poland will be looking to continue their winning ways after a victory to scotland but croatia will be looking to bounce back after their loss to portugal.
