Villarreal will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2024-25 La Liga season when they travel to San Moix for Saturday's clash against Mallorca. The Yellow Submarine currently sit in fourth place, while the hosts return from the international break in 10th position.

Mallorca’s new head coach, Jagoba Arrasate, has had a mixed start to his tenure. After a gritty draw against reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid, Arrasate's team stumbled to a narrow 1-0 defeat against his former club Osasuna, followed by a goalless draw against Sevilla. Fortunately, Mallorca ended their winless run just before the international break, securing a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Leganes, thanks to a decisive goal from Dani Rodríguez.

This victory was crucial for Mallorca’s morale, as they now head into this match aiming to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Although they face a Villarreal side brimming with attacking talent, Mallorca will draw confidence from having avoided defeat in three of their last four encounters with the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal, meanwhile, have started the season strongly under Marcelino García Toral, one of five La Liga teams still unbeaten after four games. Villarreal opened their campaign with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Atlético Madrid, followed by consecutive victories against Sevilla and Celta Vigo. A 1-1 draw against Valencia before the international break was hard-fought, especially after Pape Gueye's red card left them down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

While Villarreal’s attack has looked potent, scoring nine goals in their first four matches, their defense remains a concern, with seven goals conceded in that time. Nonetheless, they are riding an eight-game unbeaten streak in La Liga dating back to last season, and despite a historically tricky time in Mallorca, Villarreal will be confident heading into Saturday’s match, having won their most recent trip to San Moix in 2023.

 Team News:

Mallorca:

Mallorca’s injury list remains concerning. Key defender Pablo Maffeo is ruled out for over a month following an injury in the Leganes game. He is joined on the sidelines by Javi Llabres (thigh) and Mateu Morey (knee). However, Vedat Muriqi, who was forced off during Kosovo's 4-0 win over Cyprus, is expected to be fit and available for selection, a crucial boost for Mallorca’s attack.

Villarreal:

Villarreal will have to cope without Gerard Moreno, their influential forward, who is out with a hamstring injury. Juan Foyth (knee) also remains sidelined, while doubts linger over the availability of Alfonso Pedraza (ankle), Willy Kambwala, and Denis Suárez (muscle injury). Pape Gueye will serve a one-match suspension following his red card against Valencia. Despite the absentees, Ayoze Pérez, who has scored twice in four matches, will likely retain his place in the starting lineup.

 Key Players:

Having scored the winner against Leganes, Rodríguez will be expected to carry the creative burden in midfield for Mallorca. His vision and technical ability are key to breaking down Villarreal’s defense.

- Vedat Muriqi: The towering Kosovan striker’s physicality and aerial presence make him a vital target for Mallorca, especially in set-piece situations.

- Ayoze Pérez, the former Leicester City  man , has made an immediate impact at Villarreal, scoring twice in four appearances. His ability to find space and finish clinically will be crucial against a resolute Mallorca defense.

- Dani Parejo, Villarreal’s midfield metronome,  will dictate the tempo of the game with his passing range and composure. He will be vital in linking defense and attack while ensuring Villarreal control possession.

 Possible Lineups:

Jagoba Arrasate , the Mallorca manager ,will likely go with the  4-3-3 formation with Greif in goal. A defensive backline of  Valery, Raillo, Valjent,  and Mojica. Costa, Morlanes, and  Darder in midfield with Asano, Rodriguez, and Muriqi  in attack.

M. García Toral the Villarreal manager will likely go with the 4-4-2 formation with

Conde in goal .a defensive backline of Femenía, Albiol, Bailly, and Cardona. Pino, Comesaña, Parejo, and Baena in midfield with  Barry, and  Pérez in attack.

 Prediction:

Villarreal have displayed great attacking strength this season, and although Mallorca will put up a solid defensive effort, the Yellow Submarine’s firepower might prove too much for them. Villarreal’s ability to find the back of the net consistently, even in tough situations, could be decisive. Expect a tightly contested match, but Villarreal should edge out a win.

Prediction: Mallorca 1-2 Villarreal
