Manchester City begin their 2024-25 Champions League campaign with a thrilling encounter against Serie A champions Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium . The match marks their first meeting since the 2023 Champions League final , where City triumphed 1-0 thanks to a Rodri goal, completing a historic treble. 

City's perfect start to the Premier League season continued with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday. Despite going behind after just 22 seconds , the Citizens fought back through an Erling Haaland double, bringing his tally to nine goals this season. Haaland's form remains crucial, as he approaches 100 goals for City in just over 100 appearances.

With an unbeaten streak of 46 home matches and a strong Champions League record (unbeaten in 23 games), Pep Guardiola's side are favorites heading into the midweek clash. After their European showdown with Inter , City face Arsenal and Watford in quick succession, making squad rotation likely.

Inter Milan, who drew 1-1 with Monza in their most recent Serie A match, are also in good form domestically. They were denied victory last weekend by a late Denzel Dumfries goal, but they remain formidable opponents. Despite the slip-up , Inter are targeting revenge against City after the heartbreak of the 2023 Champions League final.

Simone Inzaghi’s men have won just three of their last 20 Champions League matches but possess enough firepower to challenge City. Simone Inzaghi , the Inter Milan  manager , will likely go with the 3-5-2 formation with Sommer in goal. A defensive backline of  Pavard, Acerbi,  and Bastoni. Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan,  and Augusto in the midfield area with  Thuram and  Martinez upfront in attack.

Manchester City's home form and Haaland’s lethal finishing make them favorites , but Inter will push them hard. Martinez and Thuram’s threat in attack gives the Italian champions a chance, but City’s class at the Etihad should see them through with a narrow victory .
