Manchester City head to Slovakia for the first time in history to face Champions League debutants Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday night. Pep Guardiola’s team , who have recently seen a dip in form , will be determined to get back to winning ways and secure their first victory in the group stage.

Manchester City arrive in Slovakia after a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United over the weekend. Josko Gvardiol’s goal was canceled out by an Anthony Gordon penalty , extending City’s rare run of just one win in their last four games. City's only victory in that stretch came against Watford in the EFL Cup , highlighting a temporary drop in form as they adjust to key absences.

Despite this blip , City remain favorites to win this fixture comfortably. They have lost just once in 90 minutes since December , and a victory here could see them equal Manchester United's European Cup/Champions League unbeaten record of 25 matches without defeat , set between 2007 and 2009.

Slovan Bratislava , meanwhile , began their Champions League campaign with a sobering 5-1 defeat to Celtic. Manager Vladimir Weiss faces an uphill battle , but his side has responded well domestically , winning their last three league games and scoring 12 goals in the process. While they top the Slovak Super Liga , Slovan are unlikely to pose a serious threat to the reigning European champions , who are on a different level financially and in terms of squad depth.

Slovan will hope to make their home advantage count in what will be their first-ever Champions League match on home soil. However , they know their realistic chances of advancing to the knockout stage rest on securing points in future matches against Girona , Dinamo Zagreb , and Stuttgart.

 Team News

Manchester City are still dealing with the loss of Rodri , who tore his ACL against Arsenal , and will miss the remainder of the season. Rico Lewis filled in for Rodri in midfield against Newcastle , though Matheus Nunes is another option to partner Mateo Kovacic in the center. Kevin De Bruyne remains unavailable , but Phil Foden , who was rested against Newcastle , is expected to return to the starting lineup. Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are also sidelined , while Savinho and Jeremy Doku could start after featuring off the bench last weekend.

Slovan Bratislava manager Vladimir Weiss went with a full-strength lineup over the weekend and is likely to stick with a similar XI for this daunting fixture. Kenan Bajric is a doubt in defense , meaning Kevin Wimmer may continue to deputize. Meanwhile , Danylo Ignatenko returned to action as a substitute in their win over Michalovce and could start here. Marko Tolic , operating as a playmaker , will be Slovan’s key creative force , supporting lone striker David Strelec.

 Possible Starting Lineups

Slovan Bratislava (4-2-3-1):

Takac, Blackman , Kashia , Wimmer , Medvedev, Kucka , Ignatenko, Barseghyan , Tolic , Weiss Jr, Strelec

Manchester City (4-2-3-1):

Ortega, Lewis , Stones , Akanji , Gvardiol, Nunes , Kovacic, Savinho , Foden , Doku, Haaland

 Key Players

Slovan Bratislava: David Strelec

Slovan’s 23-year-old striker , David Strelec , will be the focal point of their attack. Quick , intelligent , and possessing a sharp eye for goal , Strelec has the technical skills to trouble City’s defense , especially on the counterattack. He is adept at playing off the shoulder of the last defender , using his pace to exploit space behind the defense. Though chances may be few and far between , Slovan’s hopes of scoring will largely rest on Strelec’s ability to make the most of any opportunities that come his way.

Slovan Bratislava: Vladimir Weiss Jr

The manager’s son , Vladimir Weiss Jr , will be pivotal to Slovan’s game plan on the left wing. Known for his dribbling skills , pace , and direct approach , Weiss Jr. provides creativity and energy on the flank. His ability to cut inside and link up with Strelec or unleash dangerous shots from range will be vital if Slovan are to create any meaningful chances against City’s backline. Weiss Jr. also offers leadership on the field , and his experience on the European stage will be crucial in motivating his teammates against the overwhelming favorites.

 Manchester City: Savinho

The young Brazilian winger , Savinho , has quickly become one of City's brightest prospects since joining from Atletico Mineiro. Blessed with blistering pace , quick feet , and an eye for goal , Savinho has the ability to stretch defenses and create opportunities out of nothing. His dribbling ability allows him to take on defenders in one-on-one situations , and his combination play with the likes of Foden and Haaland makes him a dangerous asset. Against a defensively vulnerable Slovan side , Savinho will relish the opportunity to showcase his attacking prowess and could be a game-changer for City.

Manchester City: Erling Haaland

The Norwegian goal machine , Erling Haaland , remains Manchester City’s most potent weapon. Despite City's recent dip in form , Haaland continues to be a nightmare for defenders with his speed , strength , and clinical finishing. His positioning inside the box is second to none , and with the creativity of Foden , Savinho , and Doku behind him , Haaland is expected to be at the heart of City's attacking threat. Slovan’s defense will have a tough time keeping him quiet , as Haaland looks to add to his already impressive Champions League goal tally.

  Prediction

The gap in quality between these two sides is stark , and Manchester City will view this match as an opportunity to get back on track after a string of unconvincing results. Slovan Bratislava will likely sit deep and attempt to frustrate City , but if Guardiola’s men find their rhythm , it could turn into a long night for the hosts.
